Information About Emergency Preparedness

As of July 2004, the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare requires each childcare center, group home, and family childcare home to have a written emergency preparedness plan so that adults in childcare facilities know how to respond if any emergency arises.

Workshops for developing emergency preparedness plans are available for administrators of childcare centers and group homes and family childcare providers. Contact the Pennsylvania Regional Key in your area for more information:

Nothing ever stays the same.That's why it's important to take time to update your facility's Emergency Preparedness Plan at least every year. You never know when an emergency will occur. An up-to-date plan will make sure you, your staff, the children, and their families will be able to take quick action to keep the children and staff safe.

Self-Study Manual to update a center or group home's existing emergency plan
Outline and Video (VHS tape) for a one-hour meeting to familiarize staff with the emergency plan and discuss changes.
