CHILD CARE TIPS FOR PARENTS

PSA #1 -
Parents, if you are looking for child care you want to find a warm, loving caregiver and a clean, safe facility. In order to grow and learn new skills, your child also needs a program with a variety of activities on the daily schedule. Materials and equipment should be right for the ages of the children in the program. The Penns State Cooperative Extension Better Kid Care Program has information on children's issues for early childhood educators, child care providers, and parents on the Better Kid Care Web site at: www.betterkidcare.psu.edu.

PSA #2 - Children need both quiet and active times for play. Children behave better when they are kept busy and have chances for active play throughout the day. Outdoor playtime should be scheduled daily. The Penn State Cooperative Extension Better Kid Care Program has information on children's issues for early childhood educators, child care providers, and parents on the Better Kid Care Web site at: www.betterkidcare.psu.edu.

PSA #3 - Good child care providers promote creativity by scheduling art activities and providing a variety of materials to help children use their creative skills. The children are allowed to explore the materials and come up with their own ideas for using them. The Penn State Cooperative Extension Better Kid Care Program has information on children's issues for early childhood educators, child care providers, and parents on the Better Kid Care Web site at: www.betterkidcare.psu.edu.

PSA #4 -
Quality child care programs have ways for children to use their imagination. There are dramatic play areas with dress-up clothes and props. Puppets are available for shows the children make up and perform. They have toy musical instruments for pretend bands and parades. Story times lead to acting out the parts of the characters in the book. The Penn State Cooperative Extension Better Kid Care Program has information on children's issues for early childhood educators, child care providers, and parents on the Better Kid Care Web site at: www.betterkidcare.psu.edu.

PSA #5 -
Children can do many activities with blocks, small people, animal figures, and small vehicles. They can pretend many different things. Nature walks in the yard are good for exploring and collecting things which can be used for art and science projects. The Penn State Cooperative Extension Better Kid Care Program has information on children's issues for early childhood educators, child care providers, and parents on the Better Kid Care Web site at: www.betterkidcare.psu.edu.
