CHILD CARE TIPS FOR PARENTS
PSA #1
- Parents, once you leave your child at child care, you may
wonder how your child is doing all day. You would like to feel you are
part of the program. There are ways parents can be involved. Build a relationship
with the caregiver and show interest in the program. Visit whenever you
can. Volunteer for field trips and special events. Bring in requested
items from home.

PSA #2
- If you have a child in child care, take time to talk with
the caregiver every day. Ask how your child is doing. Plan strategies
together for helping your child with difficult times. Talk about potential
problems before they become a concern.

PSA #3 -Parents,
build a good relationship with your child’s caregiver by keeping
informed about the program. Read all notes and newsletters and check the
parent bulletin board for notices. Communicate regularly and let the caregiver
know that you want to work closely as a team to help your child.

PSA #4
- The place where you take your child for child care does not
have to be brand new or fancy, but there are basic things that a quality
program will have. There will be enough well-trained staff. The rooms
will be bright, cheerful, and clean. The toys and play equipment will
be clean and safe. The program should be registered or licensed if there
are more than three children enrolled.

products, toxic materials, and medicines in labeled containers in locked
cabinets. There will be a first-aid kit. Emergency numbers are posted.
There are working smoke detectors on all levels. Handwashing takes place
frequently, before and after handling food, after bathroom and diapering
routines, wiping noses, etc.
