CHILD CARE TIPS FOR PARENTS
PSA #1 - School-age children look forward
to summer vacation. Working parents have the challenge of finding child
care or other summer activities that are fun and safe for their child.
A program needs to have enough adults to supervise. The children should
have choices of activities to do.

has information on children's issues for early childhood educators, child
care providers, and parents on the Better Kid Care Web site at:

PSA #2 - Parents, if you are considering
a summer camp for your child, visit and check out the program. There are
camps for sports, music, art, science, and other things. Make sure the
activities are ones your child wants to do. Many are day camps. For away
camps, be sure your child is ready to be away from home overnight.

care providers, and parents on the Better Kid Care Web site at:

PSA #3 - If children need to ride in vehicles
for summer child care or camp outings, seat belt and car seat regulations
must be followed. Extra supervision is needed for trips away from centers
or homes. The driver cannot be counted as a supervisor, so other adults
need to be along.

care providers, and parents on the Better Kid Care Web site at:

PSA #4 -Parents, see what your child’s
caregiver has planned for outdoor creative activities in warmer weather.
Children feel freer outdoors and cleaning-up is easier! Murals can be
a group effort with long sheets of paper taped to a fence or garage wall.
Easels for individual smaller paintings can be brought outside or the
paper taped to a tree.

care providers, and parents on the Better Kid Care Web site at:

PSA #5 - Children can do many things outdoors
at child care, such as finger paint, blow bubbles, create with clay or
play dough, and “paint” the fence with water. They can make
collages with cut or ripped paper and things they collect in the yard
such as leaves, small twigs, and pine cones. Good child care programs
have many activities outdoors in the warmer weather.

on the Better Kid Care Web site for parents and child care providers.
They include activity and snack ideas, child care tips for parents, Internet
training for caregivers, and much more.
